Alisoft, the software subsidiary of Alibaba.com, the big Chinese B2B e-commerce portal that Yahoo owns a piece of, has cut a strategic cooperation deal with the municipal government of Nanjing to build China’s first “e-commerce cloud computing center.” It is expected to cost roughly $15 million once construction starts this year.
The company also intends building cloud centers in other cities to “provide e-commerce services to domestic users as well as computing, storage and network services,” according to a Chinese press report that appears on Alibaba’s web site.
