BRUSSELS, BELGIUM -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 07/16/08 -- More than 350 leading Internet and TV home-shopping retailers from Europe, the U.S., Asia and Latin America gathered in Monte Carlo June 22-24 for the Electronic Home Shopping Conference, hosted by the Electronic Retailing Association -- Europe (ERA Europe).
Branimir Brkljac, president of Studio Moderna and chairman of the Conference, announced in his opening statement: "This Conference is built to give CEOs, marketing and merchandising executives, as well as corporate strategists the latest information on the long-awaited audiovisual/online convergence, which is shaping the eRetailing of tomorrow."
The 2008 theme was "The Multimedia Consumer and You." During advanced educational seminars, experts and practitioners from Europe and the U.S. used hands-on case studies to explore the power of audiovisual content, with video and web TV converging to enhance the consumer experience.
According to Marcel Avargues, executive director of ERA Europe, "The TV home-shopping industry, surfing on the emergence of new audiovisual content access modes on the Internet, can make a difference in the consumers' electronic shopping experience, because this industry knows how to entertain, explain and sell on TV."
Keynote speakers James Taylor -- CEO of the Harrison Group USA -- and Anne Lise Kjaer -- European consumer trends analyst for brands such as NOKIA -- detailed their profile of the multimedia consumer in the U.S. and Europe.
Special focus was given to the rapidly evolving German market. In addition, Goldmedia director André Wiegand previewed the European Teleshopping Industry Report to be released in September. Konrad Hilbers, CFO, CRO of PRIMONDO and Andreas Buschelhoffer, CEO of the Auction Channel 1-2-3.tv walked the audience through their business and marketing models.
Other speakers included Rodrigo Sepulveda Schultz, a charismatic thought leader driving the explosion of video on the Internet; web optimization expert Rok Hastnik; Anders Hjorth, development VP at Relevant Traffic; Johnny Mathis, CEO of Livemercial; Jeff Molander, CEO of Molander and Associates; and Henry Scott, CEO Simply Media Ltd., an innovator of new ways to empower the British and European viewer, through new web-based channels.
