HP Removes Bradley as PC Chief

He is trading his job running half of HP’s revenue for a newly created position as executive VP, strategic growth initiatives

Todd Bradley, the former Palm CEO who's been running HP's PC unit since 2005 and added printing last year when the Printing and Personal Systems (PPS) organization was formed, has apparently been pushed aside.

He is trading his job running half of HP's revenue for a newly created position as executive vice-president, strategic growth initiatives, where he's supposed to increase HP's business in China, extend its channel partner relationships worldwide and identify potential partners among early-stage start-ups.

He will work directly with CEO Meg Whitman, who said in the Tuesday morning announcement that "There's nothing more important to HP than our channel partners and the future of our business in China. I've asked Todd to use his expertise to focus on these areas. I've also asked him to study the landscape of small companies and start-ups that could partner with HP to spur growth."

Bradley has been replaced by Dion Weisler, currently senior VP for PPS in Asia-Pacific and Japan.

Weisler joined HP 18 months ago from Lenovo where he was COO of its Product and Mobile Internet Digital Home Groups. Before that, he ran Lenovo's businesses in Korea, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). His credentials suggest maybe he should have been given Bradley's new job if HP was happy with Bradley.

Before Lenovo Weisler spent 11 years at Acer as managing director of Acer UK and helped build Acer's business in Central and Eastern Europe.

He will report to Whitman and get a seat on HP's executive council.

Whitman called Weisler "one of our very best executives and his background is perfect given the challenges we face in the marketplace," adding "Today's announcement is about putting our best qualified leaders into roles focused on restarting HP's growth."

Weisler has been temporarily replaced as head of HP PPS-APJ by the unit's COO Nick Lazaridis, who is also responsible for the Personal Systems Division in the region.
