The Chertoff Group Hires Dr. Prescott Winter

I just read a press release from the Chertoff Group that I would like to share with you. It is about a friend and IT hero of mine, Dr. Pres Winter.  The release is pasted below:

The Chertoff Group Hires Dr. Prescott Winter

July 23, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. -The Chertoff Group is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Prescott Winter as a Managing Director in its Washington, D.C. office.   At The Chertoff Group, Dr. Winter will work with clients to create a layered security defense combining the right mix of services, tools, and best practices that will help reduce risk while also working with those who offer innovative technology solutions to both government and commercial customers interested in strengthening cyber defense and response capabilities.

“Not only does Dr. Winter possess tremendous technology acumen, he understands the unique challenges facing both private companies and the federal government as both seek to better secure their networks,” said Michael Chertoff, Chairman of The Chertoff Group. “We are extremely delighted to announce Dr. Winter’s addition to The Chertoff Group team.”

Dr. Winter was most recently Chief Technology Officer for Public Sector Security within the Enterprise Security unit at Hewlett Packard.  In this role, he helped drive Hewlett Packard and its customers forward by developing the right suite of technologies and technology-enabling business processes to mitigate security risks and achieve business or mission success.  With more than three decades of experience at the National Security Agency, Dr. Winter brings tremendous cyber expertise and an in-depth understanding of the needs of both the government and commercial spheres.  During his service at NSA, he established the Technology Directorate, the agency’s first integrated technology service provider organization, serving as the Agency’s Chief Information Officer and first Chief Technology Officer.  Prior to that, he set up the NSA Commercial Solutions Center, the agency’s first multi-mission industrial relations office to develop and nurture strong partnerships with industry, as his largest and most recent effort focused on industrial relations.  While integrated into the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, he established a national-scale program to integrate and share information within the intelligence community.  Among the other positions he held during his career at NSA, he served as Deputy Chief of Defensive Information Operations, and as Chief of Customer Response.  He has worked in SIGINT analysis and reporting, collection management, and collection system development.

“Dr. Winter’s accomplished career within the intelligence community and private sector contributes to his deep understanding of the technologies and practices needed to mitigate and manage today’s increasingly sophisticated cyber threats . . . The Chertoff Group is extremely pleased to have Dr. Winter on board,” said Chad Sweet, co-founder and CEO of The Chertoff Group.

Additional members of The Chertoff Group team include former senior government officials including the former Secretary of Department of Homeland Security, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and National Security Agency (NSA), senior research and acquisition officials at Department of Defense and NSA, former UK Home Secretary and CEO of a multi-billion dollar UK defense company, as well as top business executives with decades of financial investment and M & A experience.
