GM Hires Former HP CIO

Randy Mott replaces Terry Kline who has taken his ambitions elsewhere

HP's old CIO Randy Mott, who stopped being its CIO in an Apotheke-directed internal reorg last June, is now CIO of General Motors, reporting to GM's CEO Dan Akerson and serving on the company's Executive Operations Committee. He replaces Terry Kline who has taken his ambitions elsewhere. EDS spun out of GM with GM as its largest customer. Starting six-odd years ago GM became the butter on multiple outsourcers' bread. Mott is known for doing a lot of the work in-house and automating things, which is how HP came to compress 85 data centers worldwide down to six in the US. He is apparently expected to do something equally transformative at GM and improve its global infrastructure, data management and application development. Mott, 55, was also CIO at Dell and Wal-Mart.
