NTT Europe Online Launches Global Virtualization Service in Europe

Companies can use the Global Virtualization Service to easily deploy virtualized systems in a secure environment

NTT Europe Online, a European subsidiary of NTT Communications, announced on Tuesday the launch of a new service that allows customers to use virtualization on a global scale by accessing a comprehensive array of virtualization services via NTT Communications network of premium data centres around the world.

The Global Virtualization Service, which further enhances the NTT Communications Group role as a global ICT solution partner, is now available in Europe, Asia and the United States.

Companies can use the Global Virtualization Service to easily deploy virtualized systems in a secure environment to provide enterprise applications quickly and safely wherever needed. Using NTT Europe Online's customer portal, clients can also turn global servers on and off to maximize the efficiency of their IT infrastructure.

Customers benefit from NTT Europe Online's server design, installation and operation services and also have access to a dedicated local account manager.

Research by ITIC has shown that server virtualization deployments remained strong throughout the economic downturn in 2009, with companies increasingly using the technology to raise business efficiency. The launch of NTT Europe Online's Global Virtualization Service comes at a time when the number of businesses looking to deploy virtualization is expected to grow substantially.

Damian Skendrovic, Vice President of Managed Services, NTT Europe Online, said, "Virtualization is an efficient way to manage and balance data and computing-power requirements. For many companies, the physical location of data is important for compliance, legal reasons, serving new markets and so on, so access to a proven global network of data centres is crucial. This is a truly global service, offering equivalent installation and service level agreements across three continents. Within the NTT Communications Group alone, the service supports the websites of 16 subsidiary companies worldwide."

The Global Virtualization Service simplifies the process of managing a global server footprint and centralises hosting with one-stop management, support and billing. Specific advantages include:

1. Rapid deployment and minimum up-front costs: Customers can outsource server design, installation and operation to quickly launch operations across multiple overseas locations. Up-front costs are low due to minimum costs of acquisition.

2. Effective control of resources: Taking advantage of premium data centres that are connected by NTT Communication's global network, the service enables customers to flexibly increase or decrease server resources for greater cost-effectiveness.

3. One-stop monitoring and operation via a portal site allows customers to confirm virtual server status, as well as conveniently turn virtual servers on or off. Customers also can control advanced VMware features such as Vmotion and create snapshots of virtual machines to patch software or to test new versions.

4. Integration services to combine business applications such as e-mail, web and groupware, taking full advantage of the benefits of virtualization.
